You can make sure that every group always has at least one admin. This way, people can still be added to and removed from the group, the group settings can be adjusted, and the group is still usable.
Last group admin leaves the group
If you want to leave a group conversation and you are the last admin, you'll get the option to promote another group member to an admin or delete the group if it is no longer needed:
- Open conversation details.
- Select Leave conversation:
- Promote another group member to group admin:
- Select Leave conversation.
- You get a message that you left the group and that the new admin is set:

Eligible participant is present and promoted as admin
- In this case another elegible group member will be automatically selected as an admin. Guests withount a Wire account and federated users are not elegible.
You receive a system message about the removal of a team member. The new group admin will also get a message:
No eligible participant is present
- The group will be deleted after 7 days.
System message:
This group will be automatically deleted on April 23, 12:00 PM, as there are no eligible group admins. Read more
