Back up your conversation history

  • Updated

Create a backup to preserve your conversation history. You can use this to restore history if you lose your device or switch to a new one.

You can restore your history from a backup anytime. Please be aware: History can only be restored from a backup of the same platform (iOS to iOS, Android to Android, and desktop to desktop). This means you cannot restore a backup on a mobile device when you created the backup file on your desktop.

Note:

  • Backups are not compatible across different platforms.
  • Backing up on an old version and restoring that backup on a newer version is possible, but not vice versa.
  • You cannot restore your backup if you have forgotten the password.
  • Please do not use your Wire password as your backup password.

  1. On desktop (macOS, Windows, or on Wire for web)

    1. Select Settings :

    2. Select Back Up:

    3. Set a password (optional) and select Back Up Now:

    4. Select Save file:

    5. Select where to save the file. Make sure you store the backup file in a safe place, as it is not protected by Wire´s end-to-end encryption.
