How do Wire updates work?

Wire for Windows & Wire for macOS Updates:

Wire for Windows and macOS are using Electron, Github’s open-source framework. Combining our existing web technologies, we run the same Wire for Web code inside the macOS and Windows Electron application containers (also known as “wrappers”). The apps receive 2 types of updates: 1) Wire for web running inside the Windows and macOS application containers, and 2) updates to Electron container.

1. Wire for web updates inside macOS, Windows and Linux apps:

— You are prompted to update the app with a “Update” banner; clicking on the banner restarts the app.

— Releases take place on a weekly basis on Windows, macOS, Linux, and Wire for Web.

— Update changes the Wire for Web version number, e.g.  2018.05.24

2. Windows Electron container updates:

— You receive a silent app update when you restart the app

— Update changes the Wire for Web version number, e.g. 3.0.2828

3. macOS Electron container updates:

— You receive a new update through Apple App Store

— Update changes the version number, e.g. 3.1.2822

To receive all Wire releases follow Wire Updates.
