Create guest rooms

Invite people outside of your team or people who don't have a Wire account to join a group conversation with a link. Team members can create guest rooms on desktop or from their mobile devices, and share the link with the person or group they want to collaborate with. 

The guest can join the conversation on a desktop, but not on a mobile device.

Create the link

In the conversation list:

1. Select the group conversation that you'd like to add a guest to.

2. Select the conversation name at the top or the info button :

4. Make sure guests are allowed:

5. Select Create link:

6. Select Copy link:

7. Share the link with the people you want to add to the group conversation (for example via email or calendar invite).

When your guest selects the link on a mobile device, they can either join the conversation in the app with their account directly or download the app.

When your guest selects the link on desktop, they can either join the conversation in the app with their account directly or in a browser or download the app.

If you invite people outside your team with the link, a banner at the top of the conversation will appear stating GUESTS ARE PRESENT.

People without a Wire account are automatically removed from the group conversation after 24 hours. The link will be valid until it's revoked.

No one can join the conversation with the link as soon as the link is no longer valid.

Exceptions

In some cases it is not possible to create a guest link:

1. If a team admin has disabled the feature for your team. In this case you will see this screen:

2.  If someone from another team created the conversation and their team is not allowed to use guest links:

Revoke the link

In the conversation list:

1. Select the conversation whose link you want to revoke.

2. Select the conversation name at the top or the info button :

3. Select Guests:

4. Select Revoke Link:

5. Select Revoke Link again.

On mobile

iOS

In the conversation list: 

1. Select the group conversation.
2. Select the group conversation again.
3. Select Guests.
4. Make sure the toggle is set to green/on.
5. Select Create Link.
6. You can now copy the link and share it, for example, via email or calendar invitation.

Android

In the conversation list: 

1. Select the group name.
2. Select the group conversation again.
3. Select Guests.
4. Make sure the toggle is ON.
5. You can now copy the link and share it, for example, via email or calendar invitation.
