Federation – Search for people

  • Updated

In the background, the search parameters can be defined in your backend administration according to the data security requirements. This means for you that there can be different settings.

Overview of the different search types:

  • No search: No users are found in the search.
  • Search for the exact username: Users are found only if the exact username is specified when searching for users – for example @svenfischer@example.wire.com
  • Full-text search: Users are found by full-text search by profile name or username – for example, Sven Fischer and @svenfischer@example.wire.com and also only Sve

So it could be that you cannot be found or can only be found to a limited extent by people from other backends. Or it could be that you cannot find persons of other backends or only to a limited extent.

For example, let's say there are four teams:

  • Team A: Full-text search
  • Team B: Full-text search
  • Team C: Search for the exact username
  • Team D: Search for the exact username

Team members of team A (set up with full text search) can find every member of team A and B. However, they cannot find members of Team C or D (both set up with the search for exact username).

Team members of team B (set up with full text search) can find every member of team A and B. However, they cannot find members of Team C or D (both set up with the search for exact username).

Team members of team C can find any member of team A, B and C, but not of team D (set up with the search for exact username).

Team members of team D can find any member of team A, B and D, but not of team C (set up with the search for exact username).

No team member of another team can find members of team C or D. Only team members of C can search in team C and only team members of D can search in team D.
