When the legal hold feature is active for a team member all future messages – including deleted, edited, and timed messages – will be recorded. The subject and all conversation partners will be aware of the recording.

Activation
1. Configure legal hold
Only team owners have access to set up legal hold in the team management.
a. Please contact us to configure legal hold for your team.
b. Once legal hold has been activated for a team by Wire, a form appears in team management under the section Customization. Here the owner can set up the third party storage solution.
2. Activate legal hold for a certain member
As a team owner you can activate legal hold for a person in the team management.
From teams.wire.com:
a. Log in with your account credentials.
b. Select People.
c. Select a member: if legal hold is configured for a team, you see a Legal Hold new tab in the user details.
d. Select Legal Hold.
e. Select Request Legal Hold.
f. Now legal hold is pending, shown by the red clock icon : the user will receive a request. Recording will be activated when the request is accepted.
3. The member accepts the legal hold request
If a team owner activates legal hold for you, a pop-up alert will appear in Wire informing you about the change and what it means. For verification purposes, the legal hold device ID will be shown.
a. Enter your password to confirm.
b. Now legal hold is activated for your account. This means all messages will be preserved for future access, including deleted, edited, and timed messages. Your conversation partners will be aware of the recording. A visual red indicator will be visible wherever legal hold is active, including in both 1:1 and group conversations, as well as next to the names of participants.
Deactivation
Deactivate legal hold for a member
Legal hold can be deactivated at any time by a team owner.
From teams.wire.com:
a. Log in with your account credentials.
b. Select People.
c. Select a member.
d. Select Legal Hold.
e. Enter your password.
f. Select Deactivate.
g. The user will be informed that they are no longer subject to legal hold.
