Federation – Join a guest room

  • Updated

Wire makes it easy to invite guests to specific conversations, for example, to work together on a project. Guests can only access information related to the conversations they've been added to, and can't see the complete list of team members or add or remove others. They are always clearly marked as guests.

Invite people outside your team with a link. Team members can create guest rooms on their desktop or their mobile devices and share the link with the person or group they want to collaborate with.

Guests can access the rooms through a browser on their desktop computers. Guest rooms are great for temporary conversations. Once the conversation is over, it disappears from your overview and your contact list stays tidy.

Please be aware: All participants of this guest room will see the same security level banner – even for people of another backend. This level depends on the security level of the guest room creator.

Invite someone with a user account from another backend

If you are a federated user and receive a link to such a guest area from a member on another backend, please proceed as follows:

  1. Click on the guest link that you have received by e-mail, for example.
  2. Since you are not part of the specified backend, click Join the conversation as a temporary guest on this domain:

Please be aware:
You need to be able to connect to the backend, for example make sure the firewall allows the connection. If this is not the case, you cannot reach the relevant backend and will see an error message in your browser window.
