How can I backup my conversation history?

Create a backup to preserve your conversation history. You can use this to restore history if you lose your device or switch to a new one. You will need a fresh login to restore your history from a backup.

On iOS:

To back up your conversation history, you need to add an email address and password to your account in Wire Settings.

  1. Tap Settings Settings16x16.png.
  2. Tap Account.
  3. Tap Back Up Conversations.
  4. Tap Back Up Now.
  5. Set a password for your file (at least 8 characters). You will be required to enter this password in order to restore the history on a new device. This password may be different from the password used to sign in to your account.
  6. Select a secure place on your device to save the file. The backup will be compressed and encrypted with a password you set here.

To restore a backup:

History can only be restored from a backup of the same platform. You will need a fresh login to restore your history from a backup.

  1. Sign in to your Wire account.
  2. Tap RESTORE FROM BACKUP.
  3. Tap Choose Backup File.
  4. Select the backup file.
  5. Enter the file password and tap OK. Note: This password may be different from the password used to sign in to your account.

 

On Android:
